Service Summer Roundup Part 1

It’s been an active summer across ISL with charity events, the European football championship gatherings, and our very own ISL service Olympics. Fun day trips and enjoying the healthy recipes from service gardens/allotments have rounded off the summer so far.

 

ISL Services Roundup

Alsager Supported Living Service:

ISL Alsager service held a stall at the Alsager Music Festival, clients CR and DW volunteered to help run the stall. It was a great day, £146 was raised for the local Foodbank – Alsager Music Festival Charity Event – Independence Support (isl-org.uk) 

Client CR has been working on consistent trips to build her confidence and she has now begun taking train journeys.

Alsager has a new volunteer, Karen who has two therapy dogs, Freya and Darla. Karen will be coming to see clients every Friday afternoon for a couple of hours. The clients met Freya and Darla, and as you can see from the photos we had a wonderful afternoon.

Blackpool Supported Living Service:

Clients at Blackpool thoroughly enjoyed a day trip to the Showtime Blackpool Museum.

Staff and clients at Blackpool have been focusing on health and wellbeing with their regular walking group and cooking sessions. Just Dance sessions have also been popular!

The team will be hosting their own service Olympics in August. More to follow on our news page.

Bolton Supported Living Service:

The team at Bolton have been focusing on health and wellbeing in June and August. Monica Moves dance classes, badminton and swing ball have been popular. The service Olympics is happening later in August. More to follow on our news and blog pages.

Crewe Supported Living Service:

The team at Crewe have been having lots of fun outings from beach trips to Alton Towers with clients. Staff and clients have been enjoying new recipes and practicing health and wellbeing and took part in the local ISL service Olympics – Cheshire East Service Olympics – Independence Support (isl-org.uk)

Kendal Supported Living Service:

The team at Kendal enjoyed a trip to Morecambe with client AT first time on the dodgem cars (he had a fantastic time).

Clients have been enjoying participating in the Kendal allotment project and lots of healthy recipes are being made from the vegetables grown.

The team will be hosting their own service Olympics in August. More to follow on our news page.

Leeds Chapel Allerton Supported Living Service:

The team at Chapel have been making the most of our new VR headsets which has been supportive for confidence building. Clients have been enjoying art and talk sessions as well and are working hard for our ISL art competition. The Leeds Olympics is being prepped for the end of August.

Leeds Halton Supported Living Service: 

The team at Leeds enjoyed a joint Blackpool day trip. The clients thoroughly enjoyed the day and meeting/catching up with clients from other services.

Health and wellbeing has been popular with several clients setting their own wellbeing targets across the summer with staff support.

Several clients travelled to Macclesfield for a Coach Sean cooking day. Keep an eye out on our YouTube channel for these cost effective and nutritious meal plans.

Leeds Gildersome & Pudsey Supported Living Service:

Gildersome and Pudsey clients and staff grouped together with our Halton service for a fun filled trip to Blackpool.

The garden & allotment at Gildersome is a popular daily activity and lots of vegetables are being used in healthy recipes and diches for the clients.

Clients and staff are preparing for our ISL art competition and joint Leeds service Olympics later this month.

Macclesfield Supported Living Service: 

The team at Macclesfield have focussed a lot on health and wellbeing so far this summer, with regular outings to Macclesfield Forest.

Client EW and staff member Catherine worked incredibly hard to train for a swim challenge, raising funds for local charity partner, Silklife Foodbank. You can read more about the challenge here – Macclesfield Charity Swim Challenge – Independence Support (isl-org.uk)

Staff and clients at Macclesfield also took part in the local ISL Olympics at Alsager, and were winners at the cricket.

Stoke-on-Trent Supported Living Service:

The team at Stoke have been enjoying lots of games from cricket to football throughout the summer. Post sport BBQs have also been popular amongst the clients.

Staff and clients are getting prepped for a charity steps challenge in September to raise funds for local charity partner – Affordable Food Stoke. More to follow on our news page.

Tranmere Supported Living Service:

We are thrilled to announce the opening of our Wellbeing Hub at our Tranmere supported living service. Our Wellbeing Hub will be used for a wide range of activities to support our clients ranging from art sessions, meditation sessions and the use of equipment such as sensory lights and virtual reality sets.

Our Wellbeing Hub was proudly opened by one of our clients with a speech, followed by food and music. Thank you to everyone who supported the big day.

York Supported Living Service:

ISL York supported living service clients and staff raised £223 with a walkathon for local charity partner St Nicks. You can read more about the fun day here – York Charity Walkathon – Independence Support (isl-org.uk)

The team organised a trip to Scarborough which was a great success with beach football, amusements, shopping and lots of laughter.

Regular BBQs enjoyed by all have rounded off a good York summer so far! The York team will also be joining the Leeds service Olympics later in August.
